We hope everyone had a great summer! We left June feeling very optimistic about the group of young men in the program this year – both returning players and incoming freshmen. We built some great momentum and we’re extremely excited to keep it going!
We’ve got several things in the works for our pre-season, and for ongoing updates, this blog will be the place to check in. We’ll also make sure to sent out periodic emails once we get our dates solidified for things like fall league and other volunteer/community service opportunities.
The coaching staff has put together a handful of opportunities throughout each week for players to get into the weight room and into the gym. Our calendar is up-to-date with that information as well.
Beginning September 5:
- Mondays – 7-9 p.m. upperclassmen open gym (Coach CT)
- Wednesdays – 6-7 a.m. weight training (Coach Fox)
- Fridays – 6-7 a.m. weight training (Coach Fox)
- Saturdays – 12-2 p.m. all levels open gym (Coach Kear)
We understand that maintaining a school/life balance is critical, so if you have conflicts with these days and times, we ask that the player communicate with the coaches (email addresses below).
*Quick note about weight training: while it may seem secondary to skills, developing strength, agility and athleticism are extremely important not only in the process of becoming a competitive basketball player, but in protecting yourself from injury and muscle fatigue during the season. That preparation starts in the pre-season.
We will be participating in at least one fall league at the varsity level and one fall league at the junior varsity level depending on the number of players available. We are still in the process of finalizing which leagues those will be, and we will send an update out ASAP.
Forms and Physicals
All players will be required to have an up-to-date physical (completed this year), registered and paid the fee prior to tryouts. We will be providing your son with that information, and will send out periodic reminder emails. Let’s get these things taken care of ASAP so we can get to the good stuff!
As a program, we believe that in order to develop into a good teammate on the court, players must be strong community members off the court. We believe in developing empathy, social awareness and a sense of selflessness, and so as a program, we will be pursuing opportunities to participate in community service. We currently have one opportunity on the calendar for October, and we will be providing more information around that as the date draws nearer.
With that in mind, if you or your son have any ideas, organizations or causes you think would be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you!
More on this to come, but we are putting together several ideas for fundraising this year, and it will be a focus of ours going into the early part of the season. One thing that can be done year round is banner sales in the gym through the Niwot Booster Club. For each banner we sell, we get a percentage of the fee, so if you know of anyone who you think is interested in donating to the school and the program, we’d love to connect.
